Story:
Based on the real-life prison breaks of two political prisoners, Escape from Pretoria is a time-consuming, thrilling film set in South Africa’s tumultuous apartheid days. One of the escapes was based on a book, called Jenkins Inside Out: Escape from Pretoria Prison, The film tells the real-life story of political prisoners Jenkins (played by Radcliffe) and Stephen Lee (played by Weber), two still South Africans, along with other prisoners, plotted to break out of Pretoria Central Jail in 1979. In South Africa, during the apartheid period, prisoners were accused of “producing and distributing 18 different pamphlets by banned organizations” (including the ANC). Some other political prisoners, including Dennis Goldberg, helped create and refine the details of the planned escape.
